Located just ten miles from the coast, Santa Ana is the county seat for Orange County, and it is ranked as the fourth-safest city of its size in the United States. 

There are many things to see and do in Santa Ana. Discovery Science Center provides family fun through interactive exhibits, such as Indiana Jones and the Adventure of Archaeology, and there are several museums in the area. The Bowers Museum has exhibits of mummified animals from Egypt, religious art, and Chinese terra cotta warriors. Other museums include the Marconi Automotive Museum and the Heritage Museum of Orange County. 

Residents and visitors can take in live concerts and theatre productions at the historic Yost Center. And on the first Saturday of the month, the city hosts a Santa Ana Artwalk downtown, where people can purchase original artwork. With an artist village, historic downtown art districts, and multiple paintings and murals throughout the city, art plays an important role in Santa Ana's culture. 

Santa Ana hosts the Patchwork Indie Arts & Crafts Festival each year, which features the work of more than 100 local artists. There are also many other festivals and events in the city, including the Oasis Art Festival, Orange County Vegan Fest, Santa Ana Summer Carnival, Woman's Day Festival, Boca de Oro Festival of Literary Arts, Rio is Here Dance Festival, and a variety of street fairs.               

There are no major league sports teams in Santa Ana, but high school, collegiate sports, and local sports organizations create a strong sports presence through their activities in the community. 

Santa Ana's major industries include manufacturing, retail trade, and service companies, and the government also has a large economic impact on the area. 

Several companies have their corporate headquarters in Santa Ana, including TTM Technologies, Behr Paint, and Corinthian Colleges. One of the city's more well-known business is Rickenbacker, the musical instrument company famous for their electric and bass guitars used by legendary musicians. 

Some of the city's top employers are County of Orange, Ingram Micro, United States Postal Service, Tenet Healthcare, Freedom Communications, and the California Department of Mental Health.

The Tongva and Juaneno/Luiseno people originally made their home in the area that is now Santa Ana before Spanish explorers arrived. Santa Ana officially became incorporated as a city in 1886. The population of Santa Ana is 324,528 people, according to 2010 Census data. 

Santa Ana has a hot, semi-arid climate, so the summers are hot and dry, and the winters are mild. It rains an average of 13.6 inches per year, and most of this rain falls during the winter months.
