The Lawn of Your Dreams in Sacramento

Sacramento is the capital of the state of California and the county seat for Sacramento County. It is a diverse city known as a political center, as well as its cultural and economic opportunities. Sacramento was even the home of the first suburban shopping mall in 1945.

There are more than 30 museums, theaters, and cultural attractions in Sacramento, including the Crocker Art Museum, the California Railroad Museum, the Sacramento Ballet, the California Musical Theater, the Sacramento Opera, and the Sacramento Theatre Company.

With more than 5,000 acres of parks and recreation spaces, Sacramento also offers a wide variety of outdoor experiences. Residents and visitors seeking outdoor adventures can take a whitewater rafting trip, visit the Sacramento Zoo, bicycle on the more than 32 miles of scenic bike trails, or hike along one of the area's many hiking trails.

Sacramento hosts several festivals and events throughout the year, including the Farm-to-Fork Celebration and Gold Rush Days. In addition, on the second Saturday of every month, art galleries in the area participate in the Second Saturday Art Walk, where they exhibit and sell their artwork. The Art Walk also features a farmers market, food and drinks, and a concert series.

The Sacramento Kings NBA basketball team is the only major league sports team in the city, which is also home to two additional professional teams - the Sacramento River Cats minor league baseball and the Republic FC Soccer team.

The fact that Sacramento is California's capital translates to a large number of jobs in the government sector. Other major industries that support the city's economy include manufacturing, health care, entertainment, clean energy, transportation, technology, and agribusiness. One major agricultural company in the area is Blue Diamond Growers, which is well-known for its almonds. Sacramento produces about 90% of the world's almonds, which constitutes millions of pounds of almonds.

Some of the major employers in the city are UC Davis Health, Intel, Kaiser Permanente, the State of California, Sacramento County, and Sutter Health.

Sacramento was originally home to the indigenous Nisenan people before being settled by the Spanish. The onset of the California Gold Rush and the creation of the First Transcontinental Railroad turned Sacramento into a major distribution and commercial center. The Pony Express was started in Sacramento in 1860 and provided mail service to as far away as Missouri.

Incorporated in 1850, the city of Sacramento is the oldest incorporated city in the state of California. According to the 2010 Census, the population of Sacramento is 508,530 people.

The climate in Sacramento is hot-summer Mediterranean, with mild, wet winters and dry, hot summers. The city has more than 250 days of sunshine per year, and the hot daytime temperatures in the city are cooled down in the evenings by delta breezes - sea breezes from the San Francisco Bay and the Sacramento-San Joaquin River.
