The Lawn of Your Dreams in Palo Alto

As the home to major technology companies like Google, Facebook, Apple, and many others, the Silicon Valley city of Palo Alto has become the heart of the tech industry.

With a large number of well-known attractions, Palo Alto offers something for everyone to do and see. From the Hiller Aviation Museum and the Computer History Museum to the Rodin Sculpture Garden and the Thomas Welton Stanford Art Gallery, Palo Alto's variety of arts and cultural amenities reflect the area's creativity and history.

The city's annual ACGA Clay and Glass Festival is a weekend celebration of the work of more than 130 artists who create ceramic art and handcrafted glass, and the Palo Alto Festival of the Arts attracts more than 150,000 people each year. There are also numerous other festivals, events, and conferences of various types throughout the year.

Those interested in getting up close to some of the city's sights can take one of many tours, such as Tesla's Silicon Valley Tour for Technology Lovers, complete with the full self-driving experience.

For those who enjoy the outdoors, there are multiple parks, hiking trails, and gardens, as well as the Palo Alto Baylands Nature Preserve and the Palo Alto Farmer's Market.

Palo Alto is home to the Palo Alto Oaks, a collegiate summer baseball club. And, with its convenient location between San Francisco and San Jose, Palo Alto is close to even more cultural opportunities, attractions, and sporting events.

As Silicon Valley's hub, Palo Alto's economy is strengthened by the city's more than 7,000 businesses that employ more than 98,000 people. In addition to the many technology firms, the city also serves as the headquarters for other well-known companies and research facilities.

Major employers in Palo Alto include Stanford Health Care, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, Stanford University, and Hewlett-Packard. Some of the other companies that have headquarters in the city are Space Systems/Loral, Ford Research and Innovation Center, Skype, Tesla, Logitech, Pinterest, PayPal, Intuit, and Lockheed Martin.

Palo Alto extends from the Santa Cruz Mountains to the San Francisco Bay. Palo Alto's name translates to "tall stick," which refers to the city being named after a coastal redwood tree by the name of El Palo Alto. The area was originally home to the indigenous Ohlone people before the arrival of Spanish missionaries and conquistadors in the 1700s. According to the U.S. Census, Palo Alto has a population of 64,403 residents.

Like many other cities in the Bay Area, Palo Alto has a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters. It is common for the area to experience fog rolling over the foothills as the sun goes down.
