Riverside County is located in Southern California and includes such cities as Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Temecula, and Riverside. 

The historic Mission Inn Hotel in Riverside has served as a filming location for a few Hollywood films, including "Man in the Iron Mask," in 1997. This Spanish-style hotel is also famous for hosting many celebrities and presidents, including George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, Herbert Hoover, and William Howard Taft. When President Taft visited in 1909, the Inn's founder, Frank Miller, presented him with an oversized chair, which was designed for the president, who weighed more than 300 lbs. This chair still sits in the hotel's lobby today. 

Speaking of oversized things, Riverside County is also the home of the World's Largest Paper Cup, one of the county's more quirky attractions. 

Those looking to explore the arts and culture of the county can take the opportunity to visit one of the area's galleries or museums. The Riverside Art Museum, the World Museum of Natural History, and the Palm Springs Art Museum are great places to start.                  

Riverside County has 19 official wilderness areas. And outdoor adventurers can choose from three state parks and several county parks. 

There are also several national protected areas in the county, such as Dos Palmas Preserve, Coachella Valley National Wildlife Refuge, and Joshua Tree National Park. This National Park is larger than the state of Rhode Island and includes portions of both the Mojave and Colorado Deserts. The Little San Bernardino Mountains sit along the southwestern border of the park. 

While there are no major professional sports teams in Riverside, there are many opportunities for residents to engage in sports on a local level through community leagues. 

Retail Trade, Construction, and Health Care are the largest industries in the area, while the highest paying industries are oil and gas extraction, mining, quarrying, and utilities. There are also many businesses in the manufacturing, agriculture, professional services, and technology industries.

 Some of the county's major employers are the University of California Riverside, City of Riverside, Riverside Unified School District, Kaiser Permanente, and Pacific Bell - AT&T. 

The Riverside County area was originally home to the indigenous Cupeno, Cahuilla, and Luiseno people. The county was formed from parts of San Diego County and San Bernardino County in 1893 and has grown to a population of more than 2.1 million people, according to the 2010 Census. 

The climate of Riverside County is mostly Mediterranean, but portions are a desert climate, and it varies throughout the county. The average amount of annual rainfall across Riverside County is 11 inches, and it also averages just one inch of snow per year.
