The Lawn of Your Dreams in San Bernardino

San Bernardino is the county seat for San Bernardino County, California, and it boasts a rich and colorful history. One of the things the city is known for is for its location along the famous Route 66.  Every year, the city hosts a special event - the Route 66 Rendezvous, which is a four-day celebration of the historic stretch of highway. The city even has a Route 66 museum, located on the former site of the first McDonald's Restaurant, which was constructed in 1948. 

Several other arts and culture attractions call San Bernardino home. The Robert V. Fullerton Museum of Art features Egyptian exhibits, Italian pottery, Chinese funeral art, and contemporary art exhibitions. The San Bernardino Railroad and History Museum is located in the historic Santa Fe Depot. Other museums include the American Sports Museum and the Inland Empire Military Museum. 

Residents and visitors to the city can enjoy the sounds of the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra at the city's California Theatre or attend other events at the San Manuel Amphitheater, the Coussoulis Arena, or the Sturges Center for the Fine Arts. 

San Bernardino celebrates the citrus industry's importance in the area with the annual National Orange Show Festival. In addition to lots of oranges and other citrus fruits, there are carnival games, booths, amusement rides, a petting zoo, BMX stunt performers, and a classic car show. The festival draws more than 40,000 people per year. 

The Los Angeles Angels' Single-A affiliate team is the Inland Empire 66ers, which is a baseball club in the California League. And California State University San Bernardino Coyotes compete in NCAA Division II level collegiate events. 

Government, retail, education, and service industries play a large role in supporting San Bernardino's economy. The city is also a transportation hub due to its location near the junction of major freeways. 

Some of the major employers in San Bernardino are California State University San Bernardino. Caltrans District 8, the City of San Bernardino, Community Hospital of San Bernardino, the San Bernardino City Unified School District, Stater Brothers Markets, and Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. 

San Bernardino lies within the San Bernardino Valley, which was originally home to the indigenous Tongva people. These early inhabitants referred to the area as "The Valley of the Cupped Hand of God." 

The Spanish settled in the area in the early 1800s, and much of the city of San Bernardino was not settled until 1851. During the California Gold Rush, San Bernardino became a trading center for prospectors and other residents. The population of the city is 209,924, according to U.S. Census data.

San Bernardino's climate is classified as a hot-summer Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters. The Santa Ana winds are especially strong in this area.
